Serving in the new role of Lead XR Disruptor, Dr. Hutson also serves as Department Head of Art History and Visual Culture at Lindenwood University in Saint Charles, MO. In the role, he was instrumental in establishing the Immersive Arts and Culture Hub and XR and Gaming Lab that serves the whole campus population and heads the VR Champions to integrate the use of immersive experiences across all programs, so all students get an equitable education and the same experiences regardless of background. Dr. Hutson also heads the AI initiative and the AI Ambassadors, overseeing numerous studies on the integration of AI into all majors and teaching students how to future-proof themselves as emerging technologies disrupt higher education and our daily lives. Finally, he has organized an international team of 65+ researchers who are piloting a decentered collaborative authorship model in order to leverage interdisciplinarity and insights from different fields to breakdown silos to solve wicked problems. Finally, he serves as editor-in-chief for the International Journal of Emerging and Disruptive Innovation in Education : VISIONARIUM (iJEDIE), an interdisciplinary forum for the publication of original peer-reviewed scholarship, data, and research addressing intersections of education and technology.
Since 2010, he has personally taught over 120 online courses, designed and built 26 award-winning online degrees and overseen the development of 38 others, including authentication compliance and design standards. Four of the degrees are now ranked in the top five best online programs nationwide. In addition to having served as head of all online programs, he also holds certificates in instructional design and online course assessment.
Dr. Hutson is the senior/corresponding author of over 100 books, chapters periodicals, conference papers, and academic projects.
