The Lindenwood University Mass Communications program is not only classroom learning but also experiential learning. Every mass communications student at Lindenwood University is required to take core courses, which make up 36 credit hours of your Bachelor of Arts degree. These courses will teach you the basics of the mass communications field. You will learn reporting, radio production, video production, writing for electronic media, mass communication law and theory, ethics, and more. Once you have mastered these skills, which are critical to your success, other courses are incorporated, including: broadcast, media management and sales, and sports information.

The Media Arts and Production requires 78 credit hours. 57 core credit hours of mass communications coursework, plus an additional 21 emphasis area credit hours.

Media Management and sales professionals are the lifeblood of any media operation. They generate revenue through sales and advertising. Goal-oriented, well-educated professionals who can show potential clients that investing in advertising is sound advice are never out of work. Lindenwood media management and sales students learn how to buy and sell media in addition to the principles of marketing and management.

The Journalism program at Lindenwood University is extremely hands-on and experiential. You will study in a classroom and gain real-world experience through Lindenwood’s media outlets.

Financing Business Ventures is an advanced course designed to apply the theoretical principles of finance to new or emerging businesses. Topics to be covered include capital raising, cash flow management, business planning, and value realization.

Visual Storytelling

Through a variety of writing assignments designed to follow the development process, the student will put into practice the basic building blocks of story structure to create compelling content – experience which can be applied to any communications discipline.

Podcasting Production

Students will learn the components of radio and podcast production including: interviewing, story development, script writing, interview techniques, remote recording and digital audio recording, editing of sound, mixing, and final production for broadcast.

Mass Communications Law

Students investigate the study of laws which affect and regulate the mass media. This course includes a study of constitutional, statutory, and administrative laws.
